Bianca Falcidieno

Bianca Falcidieno is a Research Director of the National Research Council (CNR) of Italy and the chair of the Department of Genova of the CNR National Institute of Applied Mathematics and Information Technology (CNR IMATI-GE).
She is responsible since 1980 for the Geometric Modelling and Computer Graphics Research Group (now Shape Modelling Group), working in the field of Shape and Geometric Modelling, with applications in Computer Graphics, Environmental Management, and Industrial Design.
She participated to many projects as scientific responsible or coordinator (20 international Projects, 28 national Projects), and currently she is the coordinator of the Network of Excellence AIM@SHAPE (Advanced and Innovative Models And Tools for the development of Semantic-based systems for Handling, Acquiring, and Processing Knowledge Embedded in multidimensional digital objects) within the European sixth Framework Programme, and coordinator of the basic research project MACROGeo (Algorithmic and Computational Methods for Geometric Object Representation), funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR).
She is the author of more than 200 scientific refereed papers and books and the owner of 5 patents. Editor in chief of the International Journal Shape Modelling (a World Scientific journal), she is currently the General Conference Chair of the Joint International Conference on Shape Modelling and Applications and on Solid Modelling for the year 2004.

Franca Giannini

Franca Giannini graduated from the Deapartment of Mathematics, University of Genova in 1986. From November 1986 to February 1989 she worked in the research and development team at Italcad Tecnologie e Sistemi.
Since 1989 she has been working at IMATI-CNR Genova. She has been involved in some National and International Projects on production automation, distributed product development and definition of user-friendly modelling tools. She is also the co-author of a patented system for automatic feature extraction (FEARE). Her research interests regard product modelling, distributed design and computer graphics.

Marina Monti

Marina Monti graduated in Mathematics from the University of Genova in May 1984. Until 1997 she was employed in the companies Italcad and Computervision, in the Research and Development department, working mostly in the fields of solid and free-form surfaces modelling and of standards for the management of product data models. Since November 1998 she is part of the IMATI-CNR Genova. She is involved in several international projects and her research interests regard Computer Aided Design, product modelling and concurrent engineering.

Michela Spagnuolo

Michela Spagnuolo got the Laurea Degree cum laude from the Dept. of Mathematics, University of Genova, 1989, and a Doctoral Degree in Computer Science Engineering, at the INSA, Lyon, France, 1997. She is currently senior researcher at IMATI-CNR Genova. Her research interests are related to shape-based approaches to modelling digital shapes. She has mainly studied techniques of geometric reasoning for the extraction of shape features from discrete surface models and geometric models for coding uncertainty in data samples (fuzzy-based modelling).

Marco Attene

Marco Attene received a Laurea degree in Computer Science from the University of Genova in July 1998. In 1999 he began the collaboration with the IMATI-CNR Genova; he got a Ph.D. in Electronic and Computer Engineering in May 2004. His main research interests are related to discrete geometric modelling, mesh analysis and remeshing techniques.

Silvia Biasotti

Silvia Biasotti graduated in Mathematics at the University of Genova in 1998. Since then, she has been in the staff of the Shape Modelling Group at the IMATI-CNR Genova. She got a Ph.D. in Mathematics and Applications at the University of Genova in May 2004. Her research interests include computational topology, shape abstraction and skeleton representation of polyhedral surfaces.

Chiara Catalano

Chiara Catalano took a degree in Mathematics in 1997 and since 1998 she is a research fellow at IMATI-CNR Genova. In May 2004 she also got a Ph.D. in Mechanics and Machine Design at the University of Genova. Her research interests include geometric and feature-based modelling for industrial design and semantics in 3D modelling for applications.

Simone Marini

Simone Marini graduated in December 1999 in Computer Science from the University of Genova. Since February 2001 he is a research fellow at the IMATI-CNR Genova and currently he is also a Ph.D. student in Electronic and Computer Engineering. His main interests concern evaluation of 3D shape similarity, graph comparison and ontological representation of scientific concepts.

Michela Mortara

Michela Mortara graduated in July 1999 in Computer Science from the University of Genova. Since December 1999 she is a research fellow at the IMATI-CNR Genova and in May 2004 she also got a Ph.D. in Robotics. Her main interests concern polygon morphing, surface reconstruction from planar sections, morphological analysis and curvature estimation of 3D meshes, skeleton extraction of 2D and 3D shapes.

Giuseppe Patanč

Giuseppe Patanč received a Laurea Degree in Mathematics from the University of Genova, and a Post-Laurea Degree Master in "Application of Mathematics to Industry" from the "F. Severi National Institute for Advanced Mathematics", Department of Mathematics and Applications-University of Milano (Bicocca). Actually, he is Research Fellow in the Shape Modelling Group at IMATI-CNR Genova and Ph.D. student in "Mathematics and Applications" at the Department of Mathematics-University of Genova. His research interests include numerical linear algebra (ill-posed problems and Tikhonov regularization), Reverse Engineering (feature line extraction and segmentation), computational geometry (topological graphs).

Okba Hamri

Okba Hamri graduated in September 2000 in Mechanical Engineering from the National Polytechnic School of Algeria (ENP). In September 2002, he obtained the "Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies" in Mechanics. Since May 2003 he is Ph.D. student in cotutelle between Laboratory 3S (Soils, Solids, Structures) Grenoble, France and IMATI-CNR Genova. His main interests concern: CAD/CAE models interaction within a multiple view representation, data exchanges (STEP), preparation of models for F.E. analysis.

Jean-Philippe Pernot

Jean-Philippe Pernot is a Ph.D. student in Mechanical Engineering of the Institut National Polytechnique of Grenoble. Member of the Laboratory 3S (Soils, Solids, Structures) Grenoble, France. His research activity is centered on the development of geometric modelling approaches in the context of free-form surfaces and meshes deformation/manipulation.
