Bianca Falcidieno

Bianca Falcidieno is a Research Director of the National Research Council (CNR) of Italy and the chair of the Department of Genova of the CNR National Institute of Applied Mathematics and Information Technology (CNR IMATI-GE).
She has been leading and coordinating research at international level in advanced and interdisciplinary fields (such as computational mathematics, computer graphics, multidimensional media and knowledge technologies), strongly interacting with outstanding industrial and social application fields: from industrial design to geographic information systems, from manufacturing to semantic web.
She is presently taking part in over ten European and Italian research projects and is the coordinator of the FP6 Network of Excellence AIM@SHAPE, aiming at representing and processing knowledge related to multi-dimensional media. From March 2008, she is the coordinator of the FP7 Coordination Action FOCUS K3D, whose main aim is to promote the adoption of best practices for 3D content knowledge modelling and processing.
She is the author of over 200 scientific refereed papers and books, chair or co-chair of international conferences and workshops, and currently editor in chief of the International Journal Shape Modelling. On the occasion of the 80th CNR anniversary, Bianca Falcidieno was included in the 12 top-level researcher women in the CNR history.

Monica De Martino

Monica De Martino graduated in Mathematics from the University of Genova in 1992. Since then she has been working at the IMATI-CNR Genova. She has been involved in several National and International Projects on Spatial Data Processing and Analysis and their specific application in Geographic Information System. Currently she has been involved in European founded projects addressing her research in the area of Knowledge Management in the Geographic domain. Her research interests are in the fields of Knowledge Management: Information Visualization, Ontology, (Visual) Data Mining, Metadata Analysis. She is currently focusing on the design and development of approaches to retrieve Multidimensional Media (as Shape and Geographical data) and to explore the semantics encoded in ontology-driven metadata.

Franca Giannini

Franca Giannini graduated from the Deapartment of Mathematics, University of Genova in 1986. From November 1986 to February 1989 she worked in the research and development team at Italcad Tecnologie e Sistemi.
Since 1989 she has been working at IMATI-CNR Genova. She has been involved in some National and International Projects on production automation, distributed product development and definition of user-friendly modelling tools. She is also the co-author of a patented system for automatic feature extraction (FEARE). Her research interests regard product modelling, distributed design and computer graphics.

Marina Monti

Marina Monti graduated in Mathematics from the University of Genova in May 1984. Until 1997 she was employed in the companies Italcad and Computervision, in the Research and Development department, working mostly in the fields of solid and free-form surfaces modelling and of standards for the management of product data models. Since November 1998 she is part of the IMATI-CNR Genova. She is involved in several international projects and her research interests regard Computer Aided Design, product modelling and concurrent engineering.

Michela Spagnuolo

Michela Spagnuolo is currently senior researcher at IMATI-CNR Genova. Her research interests are related to computational topology for shape understanding, classification and retrieval, and shape-based approaches to modelling and processing digital shapes. She is currently involved in the AIM@SHAPE project as leader of the research programme related to "Analysis and Structuring" of digital shapes. She is a member of the SMI - Shape Modeling International steering committee and member of the editorial board of IJSM.

Riccardo Albertoni

Riccardo Albertoni is currently a Ph.D. student in Electronic and Computer Engineering He received a Laurea degree in Computer Science from the University of Genoa in December 2001. In January 2002, he started his research activity at IMATI-CNR Genova. His research interests are in the fields of Knowledge Management: Information Visualization, Metadata Analysis, Ontology, (Visual) Data Mining. Current research topics are focusing on the design and development of visual tools which ease the retrieval of Multidimensional Media (Shapes and Geographical data) exploiting the semantics encoded in ontology-driven metadata.

Marco Attene

Marco Attene received a Laurea degree in Computer Science from the University of Genova in July 1998. In 1999 he began the collaboration with the IMATI-CNR Genova; he got a Ph.D. in Electronic and Computer Engineering in May 2004. His main research interests are related to discrete geometric modelling, mesh analysis and remeshing techniques.

Silvia Biasotti

Silvia Biasotti graduated in Mathematics at the University of Genova in 1998. Since then, she has been in the staff of the Shape Modelling Group at the IMATI-CNR Genova. She got a Ph.D. in Mathematics and Applications in May 2004 and a Ph.D. in Information and Communication Technologies in April 2008, both at the University of Genova. Chiara Catalano

Chiara Catalano took a degree in Mathematics in 1997 and since 1998 she is a research fellow at IMATI-CNR Genova. In May 2004 she also got a Ph.D. in Mechanics and Machine Design at the University of Genova. Her research interests include geometric and feature-based modelling for industrial design and semantics in 3D modelling for applications.

Daniela Giorgi

Daniela Giorgi got the Laurea Degree cum laude in Mathematics at the University of Bologna in 2002, and a Doctoral Degree in Computational Mathematics at the University of Padua in 2006. Since March 2006 she has been a research fellow at the IMATI-CNR Genova. Her research interests are related to computational toplogy techniques for digital shape analysis, matching and retrieval. Simone Marini

Simone Marini is a researcher at the IMATI-CNR Genova. He obtained the degree in Computer Scienece in December 1999 and the Doctoral degree in Electronic and Computer Engineering in April 2005, both from the University of Genova. He has been member of the European Network of Excellence AIM@SHAPE and he is involved in several international projects and collaborations. His main research interests are 3D shape similarity and ontological representation of scientific concepts related to the domain of 3D shape.

Michela Mortara

Michela Mortara graduated in July 1999 in Computer Science from the University of Genova. Since December 1999 she is a research fellow at the IMATI-CNR Genova and in May 2004 she also got a Ph.D. in Robotics. Her main interests concern polygon morphing, surface reconstruction from planar sections, morphological analysis and curvature estimation of 3D meshes, skeleton extraction of 2D and 3D shapes.

Giuseppe Patane

Giuseppe Patane is researcher (temporary position) at IMATI-GE and member of the Shape Modellling Group (SMG); he was a research fellow at IMATI-GE from 2001 to 2005.

Giuseppe Patane received a Ph.D. in Mathematics and Applications from the University of Genova (2005), a Post-Lauream Degree Master in "Applications of Mathematics to Industry" from the "F. Severi National Institute for Advanced Mathematics", Department of Mathematics and Applications - University of Milan (2000), and an Advanced Laurea Degree in Mathematics from the University of Genova (1999).
His research interests include numerical analysis (implicit surfaces, Tikhonov regularization), modelling of discrete data (segmentation, shape analysis), computational geometry (topological graphs, local and global parameterization). For more information, visit his home page here.

Francesco Robbiano

Francesco Robbiano graduated in April 2002 cum laude in Computer Science at the University of Genova. Since December 2002 he has been a research fellow at the IMATI-CNR Genova. He got a Ph.D. in Electronic and Computer Engineering, and Telecommunications in April 2010. His research interests are in the fields of description of 3D objects, automatic annotation of 3D objects, semantic-based search and applications for the semantic web, development of ontologies and reasoning techniques for domains inherent to 3D objects. Alfredo Ferreira

Alfredo Ferreira is a Ph.D. Student in Information Systems and Computer Science at Instituto Superior Tecnico, Technical University of Lisbon. He is also a researcher of the Visualization and Intelligent Multimodal Interfaces Group at INESC-ID, where he works on 3D shape analysis and retrieval and on multimodal and calligraphic interfaces. During his three-month stay at CNR IMATI-Ge, in the period February-May 2008, he will focus on construction of shape thesauri for 3D model retrieval with partial matching.

Vincent Cheutet

Vincent Cheutet is an old student of the Ecole Normale Superieure de Cachan, in the Mechanical Engineering Department and is now a Ph.D. student in Mechanical Engineering in cotutelle between the Institut National Polytechnique of Grenoble and the University of Genova. He is currently a member of the Laboratory 3S (Soils, Solids, Structures) in Grenoble, France, and has been invited during one year in the IMATI-CNR Genova laboratory. His research activity is centered on the development of semantic modelling approaches in the context of free-form surfaces.

Raluca Dumitrescu

Raluca Dumitrescu is Ph.D. Student at Delft University of Technology. Currently she is in the process of completing her PhD thesis on digital shape modelling tools supporting industrial designers. During the period October-December 2004 she visited IMATI-CNR Genova working on the applicability of skeletal representation of 3D shapes for product design. Her main interests are 3D modelling for product design, shape perception, human-computer interaction, usability engineering.

Okba Hamri graduated in September 2000 in Mechanical Engineering from the National Polytechnic School of Algeria (ENP). In September 2002, he obtained the "Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies" in Mechanics. Ruding Lou

Ruding Lou is now a PhD student (2007-2010) in Computer Aided Design in co-supervision between the Arts et Métiers ParisTech in France and the Università degli Studi di Genova, Italy. He is currently a member of the LSIS (Laboratory of Science of Information and System) in France, and has been visiting for 2 years at IMATI-CNR Genova. His research activity is focused on the modification of Finite Element meshes enriched semantic information, application to the fast prototyping of alternate solutions in the context of industrial maintenance.

Minica Panchetti

Minica Panchetti is a Ph.D. student in Computer Science of the LSIS (Laboratory of Sciences of Information and Systems) at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Métiers of Aix en Provence, France. Her research activity deals with the development of methods and approaches using images for the manipulation of polyhedral geometric models in a context of mechanical design. During her one month stay at IMATI-CNR Genova, she focused on holes filling in meshes using 2D information extracted from images.

Olga Symonova

Olga Symonova graduated in Applied Mathematics at Dnipropetrovsk National University of Ukraine in 2004. Tristan Whitmarsh

Tristan Whitmarsh is a Master student of the Utrecht University. Currently he is in the process of finishing his master thesis about the work done at IMATI-CNR Genova. His main interests are solving 3D geometrical problems and advanced 3D graphics. Elena Camossi

Elena Camossi is a research fellow at IMATI-CNR Genova since March 2005. She received an advanced degree (February 2001) and a Ph.D. (March 2005) in Computer Science, from the University of Milan, in Italy. From April 2000 to December 2004 she collaborated with the Database Groups of the Department of Computer Science of the Universities of Genoa and Milan. Her research interests include the application of knowledge management methodologies to three-dimensional Computer Aided Design; spatio-temporal multigranularity for Geographical and Spatial Information Systems and semantic granularities for the Semantic Web; expiration, materialized view, schema consistency, query languages for temporal and spatio-temporal databases.

Laura Paraboschi

Laura Paraboschi graduated in Applied Mathematics in September 2006 at the University of Genova. From November 2006 to November 2007 she has been a research fellow at the IMATI-CNR Genova, and her main research interests concerned comparing sets of 3D digital shapes through topological structures, such as Reeb graphs, and bioinformatics.
